The Marco Island Farmer’s Market

Location: Veterans Community Park, 901 Park Ave., Marco Island, FL

These days, no small Florida city is complete without a great farmer’s market, and Marco Island is no exception. The Marco Island Farmer’s Market includes about 120 different vendors any given week. Some highlights include:

  • Akami Accents: A unique selection of seagrass baskets and orchids.
  • Nina’s Naturals Glycerin Soaps: Her booth is full of fragrances, vegetable-based soaps, and special essential oils.
  • Captain Ken’s Seafood: Fresh Key West pink shrimp and other delightful fresh seafood treats.
  • This is only a small selection of what the market has to offer – not to mention the numerous tastings and samples you’ll enjoy as you meander through the stalls.

The Marco Island Farmer’s Market is open Wednesdays from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. in January and is expected to run to April 2018.

    “Island Rocks” Concert Series

Location: Veterans’ Community Park, 901 Park Ave., Marco Island, FL

Veterans’ Community Park is a hub of activity on Marco Island for both visitors and locals. Not only is it home to the weekly farmer’s market, but it is the site of the “Island Rocks” concert series, showcasing local and touring talent of many genres and styles.

The concert series begins January 13 with a double bill. Sarah Hadeka, a Naples-based singer-songwriter and classical pianist, will begin the show at around 4:30 p.m. some soulful tunes. The show will also feature a group of musicians on the opposite end of the spectrum. Starting at 8 p.m., Chain Reaction, a Styx and Journey cover band, will bring to the stage a slew of ‘80s sing-a-long jams.

The event is free, and snacks and drinks will be available for guests at the park. Additional shows in the concert series will be announced at a later date.

    The Left Bank Art Festival

Location: 740 N. Collier Blvd., Marco Island, Florida

Marco Island’s non-profit Foundation for the Arts is hosting a fascinating local art gathering at The Esplanade, a small village of residences and shops, on January 14.

The art festival will begin at 10 a.m. and end at 4 p.m. The artists are hand-picked by the group for each showcase event, which typically occurs about four times a year. Some of the art to view and purchase includes sculptures, large canvas paintings, and handmade crafts.

    Chalk Art 2018

Location: 1010 Winterberry Dr., Marco Island, FL

Like a paintbrush or a pencil, chalk can be used to beautiful art, too. The annual outdoor Chalk Art event, put on by The Marco Island Center for the Arts and a group of innovative and fascinating local artists, features some of the best works of chalk art in the United States and is a must-see event this January 27th.

Come by the Marco Island Center for the Arts and see chalk art in a way you have never seen it before. This event is for all ages and guests are welcomed to “chalk it up” with the artists during their visit.

The event runs from 3 to 5 pm on January 27th. It is free for all guests. Call the center at (239)-394-4221 for further details about this annual family-friendly Marco Island event and many others throughout the year. Who knew chalk could be so artistic?
